Kings Mountain is a small, suburban city in Cleveland County about 30 miles west of Charlotte. Interstate 85 and Highway 74 run through the city, making it ideally located to meet the transportation needs of its businesses. Once focused on textiles, the city’s economy has diversified to include other manufacturing and transportation. Multiple large computer servers are located here, and agriculture remains important to the region, which is home to operational dairy farms.
The area offers recreational opportunities for the entire family, including a natatorium, the Gateway Trail and the Jake Early Sports Complex. Available services include medical facilities, community centers and libraries. Residents can access cultural and educational events offered by Gardner Webb University, a four-year, private Christian university, which is a 30-minute drive away, and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, which is within a 45-minute drive.
Less than 10 miles away, Kings Mountain National Military Park honors a turning point for the patriots, who in 1780 fought an hour-long battle that changed the course of the Revolutionary War. The park offers living history demonstrations each fall. The adjacent King Mountain State Park offers hiking, fishing, camping, boating and equestrian facilities.
